Is my website healthy?

The basics a visitor or a crawler trips over: broken links on the page, mixed content on HTTPS, a missing favicon, a 404 page that returns 200, no contact page, forms posting over HTTP, console-visible errors in inline scripts. Quick, broad, and the cheapest wins on the list.

What we check

  • Broken internal links (4xx / 5xx) on the page
  • Mixed content: HTTP resources on an HTTPS page
  • Favicon, apple-touch-icon and web manifest present
  • Custom 404 page returns a real 404 status
  • Contact and privacy pages reachable
  • Forms that post over HTTP or to a dead endpoint
  • Deprecated or malformed HTML the browser has to repair

Cost of one run: 1-3 requests. Results for the same URL are kept for a few minutes, so running twice is free and instant.

Questions

What is a soft 404?

A page that says "not found" but returns a 200 status. Crawlers index it as a real page, your error page ends up in search results, and link errors go unreported. The error page must answer 404.

Why is mixed content a problem?

An HTTPS page loading an HTTP script or image lets the browser warn the visitor, block the resource, or both. Scripts are blocked outright, so a tracking tag loaded over HTTP simply never fires.

Does a missing favicon matter?

It shows in browser tabs, bookmarks and now in Google results on mobile. A missing one looks unfinished and causes a 404 on every page load. It takes five minutes to fix.
